SACRAMENTO – As the Bobcat Fire in L.A. County grew to more than 114,000 acres, serving as another stark reminder of the worsening climate crisis, SB 1320 by Senator Henry Stern (D-Los Angeles) was signed into law.  The bill aims to put a comprehensive price tag on California’s climate liabilities and serve as a financial reminder of why this crisis needs to be addressed now.

SACRAMENTO – Following Wednesday’s bold climate announcement by Governor Newsom, a coalition of California legislators announced they are looking forward to beginning the hard legislative work needed to truly attack the climate emergency.

SACRAMENTO – As a record number of voters in California and across the nation prepare to cast vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots in the November 3, 2020, General Election, the amount of mis-information about people’s VBM rights also appears to be at an all-time high.  Putting an end to that misinformation – and prosecuting people who intentionally attempt to suppress the rights of VBM voters – is the goal of SB 739 (Stern), which has been signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom and will take effect immediately.

SACRAMENTO – The wildfires that have ravaged the 27th Senate District and so many other areas of California haven’t just taken lives, destroyed tens of thousands of homes, and burned millions upon millions of acres of land.  They’ve also driven the cost of homeowner’s insurance through the roof or, in some cases, made insurance nearly impossible to get.

SACRAMENTO – As a record number of voters in California and across the nation prepare to cast vote-by-mail ballots in the November 3, 2020, General Election, Senator Henry Stern, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, and Trent Lange of the California Clean Money Campaign urged Governor Gavin Newsom to sign SB 739 (Stern) into law.

SACRAMENTO – Making sure people are penalized for intentionally spreading false and misleading information about every Californian’s right to receive and return a vote-by-mail ballot is the goal of SB 739 (Stern), which was sent to the Governor today after passing the Senate on a bi-partisan 32-0 vote early Tuesday morning.  The bill passed the Assembly on a bi-partisan 72-1 vote on Sunday night.

SACRAMENTO – As dozens of wildfires continue to rage throughout California, measures by Senator Henry Stern (D-Calabasas) to help Californians reduce the likelihood of such blazes in the future and better protect themselves when wildfires ignite moved to the Assembly and Senate floors.

SACRAMENTO – A coalition of California state legislators today urged the co-chairs of Governor Newsom’s newly formed Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery to consider a “resilience” framework that bolsters the state’s ability to overcome pending climate disasters in addition to COVID-19 and future pandemics.
