Housing/shelter: 211 LA is partnering with Airbnb to offer free temporary shelter for people displaced from their homes by fire. Start by filling out this form.

For Home Renters:

  • Renters Insurance Claims: Contact your insurance provider immediately to start a claim. If you need assistance, reach out to the California Department of Insurance at 1-800-927-4357 or visit www.insurance.ca.gov.
  • Temporary Housing: FEMA may provide temporary housing assistance. Apply at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.
  • Local Shelters and Housing Resources: Contact Los Angeles County 2-1-1 for emergency housing assistance and shelter locations.
  • Grant Assistance to a Household: Apply for FEMA Assistance here.
  • Report Housing Violations to the Los Angeles Housing Department: File complaints about unsafe living conditions at multifamily rental properties here or call (866) 557-7368.
  • City of LA Landlord Harassment Complaints: File complaints with the LA City Housing Department online or by calling (866) 557-7368. You can also contact LAPD for illegal evictions or utility shutoffs.
  • Report Housing Violations for the County of Los Angeles: Call (800) 593-8222 or email rent@dcba.lacounty.gov (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).

  • The LA County Board of Supervisors declared local emergencies because of the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fires. This means, in most circumstances, businesses cannot increase the price of goods and services by more than ten percent (10%) for consumers impacted by an emergency. This also applies to hotel and motel rooms, rental housing, animal boarding, and short-term rentals.

 

For Homeowners:

  • Homeowners Insurance Claims: Begin your claim by contacting your insurance company. For claim disputes or questions, contact the California Department of Insurance.
  • Property Tax Relief: If your home was damaged or destroyed, you may be eligible for property tax relief. Visit the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office at assessor.lacounty.gov.
  • Debris Removal: Los Angeles County provides debris removal services for affected properties. Visit dpw.lacounty.gov for details.
  • Small Business Administration Loans:
    • Loans cover up to $100,000 for personal property loss and up to $500,000 for home repairs.
    • Loans are not available for second homes or vacation properties.
    • Repayment terms are up to 30 years with a max 4% interest rate.
    • Payments and interest are deferred for the first 12 months.
    • Apply for SBA assistance here.

For Vehicle Owners:

  • Auto Insurance Claims: File a claim with your auto insurance provider for fire-damaged vehicles. If uninsured, contact local charities or FEMA for possible aid.
  • DMV Assistance: The California DMV offers fee waivers for replacing lost or damaged documents. Visit www.dmv.ca.gov or call 1-800-777-0133.
  • Towing and Storage: If your car was towed or damaged, check with local law enforcement for recovery assistance.

Emergency Housing Assistance:

  • Homeless Shelter Directory: Find shelters listed by state here.
  • Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services: Provides food and shelter during disasters. More info here.
  • Airbnb Free Temporary Housing: Apply for temporary housing here.
  • Uber Rides to Shelters: Uber is offering rides up to $40 for residents to get to shelters. Apply promo code WILDFIRE25.

Before Evacuating:

  • Prepare a Go-Bag:
  • ID, passport, insurance documents
  • Medications and medical devices
  • Non-perishable food, water, and hygiene kits
  • Flashlight, batteries, and first-aid supplies
  • Protect Your Home:
  • Shut all windows and doors.
  • Turn off gas and electricity if instructed.
  • Move flammable items away from your house.
  • Plan Your Route:
  • Identify multiple evacuation routes.
  • Stay informed through CAL FIRE (fire.ca.gov).

For Elderly Residents:

  • Ensure mobility aids, medications, and emergency contact lists are ready.

For People with Disabilities:

  • Prepare assistive devices and written instructions for caregivers.

Preparing To Address Road Impacts:

  • StreetsLA, will have emergency trucks available citywide.

    • StreetsLA will also make additional staff available to respond as needed.

  • StreetsLA's Urban Forestry Division is prepared and ready to be deployed for emergency response and removal of tree debris.

  • Announcements involving significant road closures or transportation impacts will be updated at ladot.lacity.org/dotnews.

  • Remember to treat intersections with traffic lights that are out or flashing as four-way stops.

Other help with communication, transportation, etc.: 

Uber: Residents in Los Angeles County who’ve been ordered to vacate their homes can get a credit from Uber to get to an evacuation site. The $40 will only be valid for trips to an active shelter and by using the code WILDFIRE25.

Lyft: Lyft announced it will be offering $25 vouchers, valid for two trips, to 500 customers from now until midnight on Jan. 15. Use the code CAFIRERELIEF25 to get the promotion.

AT&T: The telecommunications company announced it is offering wildfire areas unlimited data, talk and text through Feb. 6. Visit their official site for a list of valid zip codes.

  • AT&T has Wi-Fi hotspots and charging stations for public use at the following locations:

Verizon: Verizon announced it will waive call, text and data charges for customers in hardest hit areas. The company also deployed free Wi-Fi and charging stations at three wildfire shelters.

Planet Fitness: The fitness chain is offering evacuees and first responders free access to their facilities, including showers, locker rooms, and Wi-Fi. Offer is valid until Jan. 15 Please contact your nearest Planet Fitness for more information.
