Senator Henry Stern To Announce Legislation to Stop Speeding Epidemic
WHO: State Senator Henry Stern (D-Los Angeles) with victims and community groups, along with a briefing from Southern Division California Highway Patrol leaders.
WHAT: Building on last year’s bipartisan legislation and funding efforts, Stern will announce legislation to combat side-shows, street racing, and reckless driving across the region.
Stern’s legislation will look to target investments from new and existing resources, including the California Traffic Safety Program and the Highway Violence Taskforce. The bill will also propose enhanced penalties for street racing and side-shows, such as vehicle impoundment and demolition.

WHY: Recent tragedies on our local streets include street racing fatalities in Westlake Village, Van Nuys the traffic death of a 16 old teenager and three separate incidents in West Hills, one involving a motorcycle, one involving a single-mother and another in Vanowen. The Mayor’s Vision Zero will not work until there are sufficient resources and authority to enforce traffic safety.
