Wildfire Recovery Resources for Senate District 27 Residents
Dear Neighbors,
Our hearts are with all those impacted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Our office are here to support you through this difficult time. Below are important insurance and recovery resources to help guide you in rebuilding and recovering your property:
For Home Renters:
- Renters Insurance Claims: Contact your insurance provider immediately to start a claim. If you need assistance, reach out to the California Department of Insurance at 1-800-927-4357 or visit www.insurance.ca.gov.
- Temporary Housing: FEMA may provide temporary housing assistance. Apply at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.
- Local Shelters and Housing Resources: Contact Los Angeles County 2-1-1 for emergency housing assistance and shelter locations.
- Grant Assistance to a Household: Apply for FEMA Assistance here.
- Report Housing Violations to the Los Angeles Housing Department: File complaints about unsafe living conditions at multifamily rental properties here or call (866) 557-7368.
- City of LA Landlord Harassment Complaints: File complaints with the LA City Housing Department online or by calling (866) 557-7368. You can also contact LAPD for illegal evictions or utility shutoffs.
- Report Housing Violations for the County of Los Angeles: Call (800) 593-8222 or email rent@dcba.lacounty.gov (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).
- Report Rent or Price Gouging: Report violations to the California Attorney General here.
For Homeowners:
- Homeowners Insurance Claims: Begin your claim by contacting your insurance company. For claim disputes or questions, contact the California Department of Insurance.
- Property Tax Relief: If your home was damaged or destroyed, you may be eligible for property tax relief. Visit the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office at assessor.lacounty.gov.
- Debris Removal: Los Angeles County provides debris removal services for affected properties. Visit dpw.lacounty.gov for details.
- Small Business Administration Loans:
- Loans cover up to $100,000 for personal property loss and up to $500,000 for home repairs.
- Loans are not available for second homes or vacation properties.
- Repayment terms are up to 30 years with a max 4% interest rate.
- Payments and interest are deferred for the first 12 months.
- Apply for SBA assistance here.
For Vehicle Owners:
- Auto Insurance Claims: File a claim with your auto insurance provider for fire-damaged vehicles. If uninsured, contact local charities or FEMA for possible aid.
- DMV Assistance: The California DMV offers fee waivers for replacing lost or damaged documents. Visit www.dmv.ca.gov or call 1-800-777-0133.
- Towing and Storage: If your car was towed or damaged, check with local law enforcement for recovery assistance.
Emergency Housing Assistance:
- Homeless Shelter Directory: Find shelters listed by state here.
- Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services: Provides food and shelter during disasters. More info here.
- Airbnb Free Temporary Housing: Apply for temporary housing here.
- Uber Rides to Shelters: Uber is offering rides up to $40 for residents to get to shelters. Apply promo code WILDFIRE25.

- The California Department of Insurance is available to help with insurance coverage questions and claim disputes. Call 1-800-927-4357 or visit their Wildfire Resources.
