SACRAMENTO – The wildfires that have ravaged the 27th Senate District and so many other areas of California haven’t just taken lives, destroyed tens of thousands of homes, and burned millions upon millions of acres of land.  They’ve also driven the cost of homeowner’s insurance through the roof or, in some cases, made insurance nearly impossible to get.

SACRAMENTO – As a record number of voters in California and across the nation prepare to cast vote-by-mail ballots in the November 3, 2020, General Election, Senator Henry Stern, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, and Trent Lange of the California Clean Money Campaign urged Governor Gavin Newsom to sign SB 739 (Stern) into law.

SACRAMENTO – Making sure people are penalized for intentionally spreading false and misleading information about every Californian’s right to receive and return a vote-by-mail ballot is the goal of SB 739 (Stern), which was sent to the Governor today after passing the Senate on a bi-partisan 32-0 vote early Tuesday morning.  The bill passed the Assembly on a bi-partisan 72-1 vote on Sunday night.

SACRAMENTO – As dozens of wildfires continue to rage throughout California, measures by Senator Henry Stern (D-Calabasas) to help Californians reduce the likelihood of such blazes in the future and better protect themselves when wildfires ignite moved to the Assembly and Senate floors.

SACRAMENTO – A coalition of California state legislators today urged the co-chairs of Governor Newsom’s newly formed Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery to consider a “resilience” framework that bolsters the state’s ability to overcome pending climate disasters in addition to COVID-19 and future pandemics.

SACRAMENTO – The California Fish and Game Commission will vote today to provide vulnerable mountain lions temporary endangered species status and move mountain lions one step closer to full endangered species status after urgent calls from key legislators emphasized that “[now] is the time to act to save these noble creatures.”

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has taken control of the statewide mountain lion depredation process and promised an “all-inclusive strategy” in response to a letter from the chairs of key environmental committees calling for a comprehensive solution to the Southern California mountain lion extinction crisis.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern (D-Calabasas) issued the following statement applauding Governor Newsom’s announced budget:

“Governor Newsom’s budget advances bold new ideas to fight California’s climate emergency. By advocating the passage of California’s first ever climate resiliency bond, putting $1 billion toward publicly-supported green innovation and committing $2 billion to expand our firefighting corps, harden our homes and protect our communities from disaster, Governor Newsom is placing resiliency at the top of the agenda.
