California Climate Leadership Forum
With a strong presence from the California Senate and institutions like the Department of Agriculture and the California Air Resources Board (CARB), this leadership forum – organized by Climate Registry – aimed to showcase the Golden state’s will to continue decarbonizing.
With the state grid producing 61% of its energy from renewables this year, the determination to tackle the remaining (and harder) emissions was evident.
Led by Mike McGuire, California Senate President Pro Tempore, the mix of officials talked about their efforts with CARB Chair Liane Randolph highlighting the broad range of policy that her growing team is working, while Senators Henry Stern (SB 261) and Scott Wiener (SB 253) talked about the bills they have been sponsoring for emission disclosure and the challenges they have seen from chambers of commerce.
One of the highlights came from Senator Josh Becker, who, following his appearance at the Climeworks event on the previous day, again emphasized that California wants to be a leader in carbon removal and work on enacting a bill to support the industry.
