Senator Stern Excited to Get to Work After Pro Tem Atkins’ Committee Assignments and Appointments

SACRAMENTO – In response to the Senate Pro Temp Atkins release of committee assignments earlier this week, Senator Henry Stern (D- Calabasas) said “I’m grateful to Pro Tem Atkins for appointing me to lead the Legislature on climate as Chair of Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policies and as the Senate Member on the California Air Resources Board. We had big wins last year in policy and budget, but we have left many questions unanswered about how California will lead the nation and the world to systemic climate change by 2030.”
“Since taking office, Senator Stern has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to finding sensible, progressive solutions to the daunting impacts of climate change, helping guide the Senate’s work on one of the most critical issues facing California,” said Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego). “I know his leadership and expertise will be an invaluable asset to the entire Legislature in his new roles as Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policies and Senate Appointment to the California Air Resources Board, as well as in his roles on the Energy, Utilities and Communications; Natural Resources and Water; and Judiciary Committees.”
Senator Stern believes that these assignments offer new opportunities to attack the climate crisis and collaborate further with CARB on the most important problem that humanity has ever faced. The responsibility that California has in paving the way for the rest of our nation on these pressing issues is one that Senator Stern takes very seriously and is excited to work alongside experts in the field to make meaningful and actionable change.
Senator Stern added, “While I am leaving the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee with unfinished business—from water security, oil and gas setbacks, to wildfire prevention, and wildlife protection—I know Senator Min will lead the committee capably.”
