Senator Henry Stern: Governor Newsom’s Budget “Advances Bold New Ideas to Fight California’s Climate Emergency”
SACRAMENTO – Senator Henry Stern (D-Calabasas) issued the following statement applauding Governor Newsom’s announced budget:
“Governor Newsom’s budget advances bold new ideas to fight California’s climate emergency. By advocating the passage of California’s first ever climate resiliency bond, putting $1 billion toward publicly-supported green innovation and committing $2 billion to expand our firefighting corps, harden our homes and protect our communities from disaster, Governor Newsom is placing resiliency at the top of the agenda.
This budget is also fiscally responsible, building on our economic strength while expanding state reserves. It puts affordability and consumer protection front and center, committing to protecting California families from predatory business practices and skyrocketing prescription drug prices— and it invests $1.4 billion toward fighting our homelessness crisis through emergency housing, substance abuse treatment, mental health care and much more.”
I applaud Governor Newsom’s budget proposal and look forward to working with him and my colleagues in the Legislature in the months ahead.”
